La Parguera A local guide by Marietta Keys
The cays of La Parguera seen from above

Cayo Májimo

A sandy beach and clear water, with the coastline in the background.

Cayo Májimo combines sandy areas with mangroves and very clear, shallow water. It's one of the cays where you can walk into the water from the shore — something not every cay in the area allows as easily.

Directions

By water from La Parguera's waterfront. Arrange drop-off and pickup with a local operator; it isn't a regular stop on every tour.

Things to do

  • Walk into the water from the sand, no need to jump off the boat.
  • Swim in shallow, sheltered water.
  • Light snorkeling near the mangroves.
  • Spend the day with your own food — there are no services on the cay.

Tips

  • Bring an umbrella: natural shade is limited.
  • Water shoes for the spots where the bottom stops being sand.
  • Check with your operator that they stop here before you book.
  • Leave no trash; there's no collection.
How to visit

You can only get there by water. Arrange drop-off and pickup with a local operator before you go — there are no services and cell coverage isn't guaranteed on the cays.
